Tornado Watch For Part of Viewing Area Until 2 A.M.

July 12th, 2014 at 11:30 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

Tornado Watch in effect until 2 a.m. for Benton, Newton, Jasper.

Leading edge of rain now near Kankakee River.  Bow of Severe T’Storm Warnings northwest of Joliet, Illinois.

Scattered strong-severe gusts & perhaps an isolated brief tornado is still possible (given low-level shear, robust instability coming in & also very high dew points, which will lead to low LCLs or cloud bases, making a quick tornado easier to form).

Locally-heavy rainfall is also possible.

Compared to other storm lines we’ve had this year, this one just doesn’t seem very well assembled or organized. It seems like a random blob with some red pockets tucked in. Is there a reason why this is versus the others?

The line of storms just finished going through here at Fox Lake, IL. Very heavy rains and vivid lightning but pretty lame here.
