Moderate snow is being reported at Logansport & Rochester with rain/snow/sleet at Peru.
Snow has tapered at Frankfort.
Received an email that snow, which whitened ground in north “melted as quickly as it came”.
Dusting grass in the back of the station is gone & snowboard is just wet now!
Temperature is sitting at 33.9 at the station, but west winds are sustained at 23 mph with gusts to 29 mph (with hole in clouds with brief burst of sun!). At Morocco, winds are sustained at 26 mph with gusts to 39 mph. Covington station shows a west wind at 19 mph with gusts to 28 mph.
Be aware of frequent 40 mph gusts overspreading the area this evening & some snow showers/flurries blowing in with falling temperatures.
Some places have received quick 0.5″ on grassy areas, car tops & roofs. Here at WLFI, it is 33.1 with light snow after rain/sleet, then sleet, then sleet/snow, then burst of moderate snow with quarter- to half dollar-sized flakes. 0.1″ briefly accumulated on the snowboard & we had a patchy dusting on the grass, but it seems to already be melting. Even the slush on the car tops is melting. This has all amounted to 0.04″ of liquid here at the station.
Received report of heavy snow between Rossville & Colfax with estimated 0.25 mile visibility. Also just received report of “heavy snow” east of Delphi.
After this burst of precipitation, there is a lull with other snow showers/flurries in northwestern Illinois.
Temperatures will fall this afternoon & gusty winds of 35-40 mph at times will arrive this evening.
It is a breezy to windy day with rain/snow/sleet showers, especially in band moving into our western counties.
At WLFI, our high so far today has been 38.8 after a morning low of 23.0. As of 2 p.m., it is 37.1 with a dew point of 27 & sprinkles of rain. As precipitation falls, we will likely “wet bulb” to 32, causing an eventual changeover to all snow after brief rain/snow/sleet with band. Morocco is currently reporting moderate snow & 32. Rensselaer has light snow & 34 with visibility of 2 miles.
There are other snow showers & flurries upstream with colder temperatures & gusty winds to 38 mph.
Quick 0.5-1″ of snow is possible in some places today.
By tomorrow morning, 1″ or less of snow is possible with even 1-1.5″ in northern Jasper, Pulaski to Fulton & northern Miami counties.
