First Freeze For Some, But Overall Coldest A.M. of the Season (So Far) With Some FrostOctober 14th, 2013 at 10:11 am by Chad Evans under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog
The temperature at WLFI & the Purdue Airport dropped to 36 degrees this morning. This was quite an adjustment & shock to the system after Saturday’s highs of 79 at WLFI & the Ag Farm & 77 at the Airport!
30s were widespread this morning. Weather station off 9th Street near Amelia Earhart Elementary (on the southside of Lafayette) also dropped to 36. Station near I-65 & Route 25 bottomed out at 37. NWS’s official COOP station at Delphi dropped to 36. Not only was there some frost in sheltered places, but this was the coolest temperature of the season, so far.
Even Covington, in our southwest, dropped to 35.2 degrees & the NWS Perrysville COOP statio, south of Covington, dropped to 35. Danville, Illinois dropped to 33 & the NWS Morocco COOP station hit 32, officially. Per NWS Chicago, I even saw a COOP station tank to 29 northeast of Rantoul, Illinois.
Freeport, Illinois, west of Rockford, Illinois, bottomed out at 28.
Morocco station’s low of 32.4 degrees was the first freeze of the season. A state highway station north of U.S. 41/Route 14 dropped to 32.1 & a APRSWXNET station on West Division Road northeast of Morocco read 32.0 degrees for a morning low temperature.
The light north breeze prevented really widespread frost this morning, but there was whitened grass in areas that the wind could not reach.
