September 20, 2013: HP Supercell Jasper, Benton & White CountiesSeptember 20th, 2013 at 4:05 pm by Chad Evans under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog
HP supercell tracked along outflow boundary yesterday from near Kentland, through northern Benton County to southwest White & northeastern Tippecanoe County. The storm blew up on the edge of stronger mid & upper winds in the troposphere that helped to produce the widespread, significant wind damage from Kansas to Wisconsin & Minnesota to Wisconsin.
Dew points in the 69-73 range & the tropical, unstable airmass was in place with strong low-level winds & good low-level shear along boundary.
1.75″ diameter hail fell near Kentland.
1.5″ diameter hail fell east of Wadena, corn fields were flattened west of that location with 0.50″ hail near Goodland & a brief funnel south of Kentland & in northeastern Benton County. Crop damage occurred south of Kentland, as well.
No tornado apparently occurred, but 2 microbursts appear to have occurred with the storm with torrential rainfall. Zero visibility was reported south of Goodland from the torrential rainfall.
