Getting Into Heat Advisory Criteria Now As Heat Wave Intensifies a Bit

July 17th, 2013 at 3:41 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

UPDATE:  3:58 P.M.:  NWS Northern Indiana just issued Heat Advisory for Pulaski, Fulton, White, Cass & Miami counties until 7 p.m. Friday.  Numbers are unchanged in the forecast, but advisory only re-enforces need for safety in the heat with heat indices of 100 or more with highs in the lower to middle 90s.

We are completely surrounded by Heat Advisories as the heat wave intensifies across southern Canada & much of the eastern U.S.  Now, Excessive Heat Watches have been issued for southwest Ohio & Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect in New Jersey, near Philidelphia & in northern Delaware.  Excessive Heat Watches continue for metro Boston.

Traverse City, Michigan reached 95 yesterday with a morning low of only 77!  Grand Rapids, Michigan tied the record high with 95 a couple days ago.

Heat indices are certainly warranting Heat Advisories now in our area & NWS may pull trigger as a result. Heat indices are now reaching 104 in the viewing area (running 96 to 104 as of 3:20 p.m.).  Regardless, 90s for 3 more days & 100 or greater heat indices will continue to dominate!

I love dogs but can’t say I love the “Dog Days Of Summer” ;)

But..still better than Winter Snow Storms ;)

  2. I enjoy the sunshine of these days and actually the skies are very clear, not hazy as you’d think with the humidity. My wx station shows a high of 93* and a heat index of 104*…not liking it but thankful it hasn’t been all summer like last year.
