Lake Michigan Influences (Happy Mother’s Day Weekend!)May 10th, 2013 at 10:02 pm by Chad Evans under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog
Thank you to all of you Moms out there for giving so much & sacrificing so much always! I do not know what I would have ever done or would ever do with out my mom or even mother-in-law! Thank you all again!
Highs today ran in the 60s. Cold front passed & began to cool area, but main reason behind much colder weather is lake breeze front. Notice the lobe of colder temperatures all directly south of Lake Michigan. The western suburbs of Chicago & areas in northeast Indiana are actually much warmer than Lafayette & northward.
Lake temperatures are running 40-48 from Milwaukee to Calumet. The warmer 50s water has migrated east & set up on the west coast of Lower Michigan.
With a long fetch of strong northerly wind setting up over a good band of that near 40-degree water, the heavy, cold, moisture-laden air has rushed inland. That cold, cold water is partially due to upwelling of deeper, icy-cold water via strong winds for past few weeks.
I do not think the temperature will change much from lows of 43-46 tonight. So, even though it is already in the 40s in many places, no need for alarm with 30s……………with these lake breezes, they only get as cold as the water temperatures & that is 40 & mostly cloudy skies should hang on tonight.
