First 70-Degree Day of the Year For Many of You (But Also Windy with Pretty High Fire Danger Today)

April 6th, 2013 at 6:46 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

It has been a nice, warm, but windy Saturday with gusts as high as 46 mph Newton County & 44 mph in Benton County.  Fire danger has definitely been elevated to Red Flag Warning range with relative humidity as low as 17% with these strong winds & dry fuel around.  Conditions certainly were conducive to explosive grassland & brush fires.  Threat is gradually waning now as we get past 7 p.m.

We’ve had a mix of high/mid clouds & sun, but now thick clouds are moving in from the west as we get into the evening hours.

Some widely-scattered showers (perhaps even a t’shower) are possible this evening-tonight from northwest to southeast, but rainfall will not amount to a whole lot.

Sunday looks good with less wind, but still warm highs at 67-72 amidst partly cloudy skies.

When I was shoveling out of that last 10 inch Snowstorm…I was thinking of days like today…

We were on 66 going through Newton County today and there were a few spots where at first it looked like smoke had covered the highway. As we drove past we realized it was dust coming off the fields from the wind. Sometimes it was difficult to see through.

Definitely t-shirt weather today. Recorded 68.7 here, and strong winds.

Reached 72 here today. With the showers coming in and the night time lows in the 50′s, and warm temps during the day, the mushrooms will be popping soon at least the grays and blacks will be..I am so ready to hit the woods.
