1 p.m. Update………Mix Transitioning to All Snow……Worst of the Conditions Tonight with Snow & Strong Winds

March 5th, 2013 at 12:58 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

A transition to all snow is underway in the viewing area.  All snow is being reported in Newton, Jasper, Pulaski, Fulton & parts of Benton, Cass & White counties.  Now Miami County is reporting all snow.  Just saw Danville, Illinois has now gone to all snow with 1.5 mile visibility.

1″ has already been reported from Rochester area.  0.7″ has been estimated from Doppler radar in northern Newton & Jasper counties & 0.6″ in northern Pulaski County.  Cass County Airport is reported light snow with 2.5 mile visibility now after mix 45 minutes ago.  Grissom Air Reserve Base is now all light snow.  Clinton County Airport has rain & 32 degrees (freezing rain).

At WLFI it is a sleet/rain mix with 34.0 degrees & east winds up to 14 mph.

On-going snowfall forecast looks good.  I highly doubt the 6-10″ area-wide.  I still like 2-7″ from southwest to northeast.  I will make any tweaks if needed, but do not see the need for that right now.

Second graphic shows airport & spotter reports across the area.

  4. Brandon in new ross says:

Drizzle wet roads in New Ross. Cold and raw outside.

  5. Jane says:

    Chad,
I could predict 2’7″ by sticking my head out the window. Your predictions are vague. Can you pinpoint a more specific amount at some point?

  6. Todd says:

Chad has posted a detailed map as to how much will fall where…far from vague.

  7. James says:

Jane, the map he provided on this post seems rather specific. Don’t know what more you would want.

Chad, could you give me the winning lottery numbers? Thanks.

  8. Ken says:

Well, Jane… the 2-7″ predictions appear to be based on a southwest to northeast trajectory, per Chad’s post. Can’t you look at the graphics he’s posted and get a sense for what he’s projecting for your particular location and the surrounding area to get an idea??

  9. Nick says:

Life is good as a weather forecaster, 2-7″ ?

  10. Todd says:

Getting a wintry mix in Galveston

  11. Duane C says:

The Chad Protector Squad is in full force. I’m guessing Jane got the point the first time, or second, or third. I’m guessing she did not see the map…Wow!

3″?? Here’s hoping chads wrong on this one

  13. James says:

There should be a “Like” button and a “What?!” button for these posts.

Rain/sleet/snow mixture started a few minutes ago here in Fountain County (Mellott). Not a bird in sight, I’m sure they all have went and found shelter for this upcoming snow, don’t blame them one bit. We fed them pretty heavy yesterday, found some old corn flakes, and cheerios so threw them out under pine tree in the front yard. They came in by dozens it seems, like after one set would get done eating they went to tell all their other feathered friends about the free all you can eat buffet.I have a board set up in front yard so I can do some measurements later. Wish the rain/sleet would go away, don’t mind the snow. I hope all of you plowers got everything gassed up, oiled up, your lights hooked and blades ready! Sounds like you all are going to be very busy. Stay warm and be safe out there. Chad, THANK YOU for all your hard work and dedication on this storm. And give your wife and lil one a big THANK YOU as well.

  15. Ken says:

LOL, Duane C… I think the CPS (Chad Protective Squad) must have been coming to the rescue all at the same time. Only after I posted in my obvious display of annoyance did I realize a couple others beat me to it.

  16. Ken says:

We are not protecting him….geez….its just some of you are so rude & impatient. What if I were like that to you all? enjoy him while he’s here. he’s too good to stay in our area he’ll be in a big market in a few years.

  17. Ken - Mulberry says:

Looks like we have more than one Ken on here – so how do we tell ourselves apart anyway? Guess I’ll put my Location.

  18. Duane C says:

Rude and impatient? If the lady didn’t see the map, she was being truthful and not rude. I understand what you are saying, Ken. I think lots of people have a tendency to be a bit rude on here. I’m just saying that there are nicer ways to say things. I guess maybe I’m not much for the blogging thing. I will go back to just reading the posts. Please remember not everyone is reading and posting with the the need of being a meteorlogist. Some just want to know what the weather is doing in other areas and their own area too!

  19. Ken - Mulberry says:

Sorry Duane C- I don’t know who the other Ken was that posted at 2:09 p.m. saying people were rude/impatient. Yes, I snarled at Jane in the 1:50 p.m. post and then laughed in my 2:05 p.m. post. Sorry to Jane and to anyone else who might have been offended by three people snarling in succession. I didn’t consider that perhaps she couldn’t see the graphics with the very specific snowfall estimates by county across the viewer area. I do realize sometimes CHad’s text gets loaded prior to the graphics. Guess we’re all touchy from a long dry spell without weather excitement.

Meanwhile, I’ve put my location in my name and now my comments are awaiting moderation. We’ll see how long it takes for a second Ken from Mulberry to show up.
