50s Next Friday…..60s (70 South) Near March 12

March 1st, 2013 at 12:45 am by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

It still looks like a surge of spring is coming soon.  Though it still looks raw to March 8, warmer weather will arrive next Friday with highs in the 50s & eventually 60s to even 70 will move in.

I can already hear the American robins, mourning doves, red-winged blackbirds, song sparrows, eastern meadowlarks, cardinals, western chorus frogs & spring peepers………..with the aroma of fresh soil in the air………ahhhhhh some spring.

Nothing is better than hearing distant thunder & listening to the red-winged blackbirds, robins & spring peepers on a warm spring evening.  Brings back so many memories as a kid.  However, I would have to say my favorite kind of weather is distant lightning at night with the corn rustling with stifling 80s with dew points in the mid 70s with the crickets, katydids & all of that night-time insect fauna in loud song.  I like the distant sounds of whip-poor-wills & chuck-wills-widows in the woods.

Chuck-wills-widow (calls at night, rests during the day)

Whip-poor-will (calls at night, rests during the day)

    It was one of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade. ~Charles Dickens, Great Expectations

    It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so! ~Mark Twain

    The year’s at the spring
    And day’s at the morn;
    Morning’s at seven;
    The hillside’s dew-pearled;
    The lark’s on the wing;
    The snail’s on the thorn;
    God’s in His heaven -
    All’s right with the world!
    ~Robert Browning

    Spring shows what God can do with a drab and dirty world. ~Virgil A. Kraft

    The first day of spring is one thing, and the first spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month. ~Henry Van Dyke

    Was doing some pruning on my fruit trees a few weeks ago and the budding on them was excellent. If we can just not get three weeks of real warm weather we have an excellent chance to have some nice fruit.

    I am excited for the spring growing – I have new gardens to establish – if I can’t have snow – bring on the spring.
