Dynamic Cooling with Upper Low Now Taking Over with Changeover to Snow In Newton, Jasper Counties

As we approach evening, we are seeing a gradual changeover to snow in the viewing area & it is starting in our northwestern counties.
All snow now being reported at Morocco, Kentland & Remington. I have received several reports of big flakes mixing in with the rain in Benton County.

There are little bits of elevated CAPE (instability) associated with the cold pocket aloft in south-central Illinois. So, I would not totally rule out a rumble of thunder in some of the periodic snow tonight as the upper low gets closer.
5,000′ temperatures have dropped at/below 32 degrees in Newton & Jasper counties, causing snow, rather than mix that is associated with a warm layer aloft. This gives the precipitation little chance to melt into a raindrop on the way down (whether it be just pure rain, rain freezing on contact [freezing rain] or the rain freezing into a pellet [sleet]).

Added another .08″ of rain putting my total so far at 1.45″. Currently 36.4* and no precipitation.
and I now have 1.24 inches of precip..temp is 35.6* We are pretty close on amounts Bud:) Still have ice from this morning covering the patio and parts of the grassy areas. Was a sloppy, slushy mess going to work this morning.
