Freezing Rain/Sleet Will Cut Into Any Snowfall Accumulations
Soundings point toward a largely freezing rain/sleet event & not much snow. It appears the ice will cut into snow accumulation.
Nonetheless, accumulating ice continues area-wide & road condition will worsen this evening, despite the precipitation winding down from west to east.
As of 3:30 p.m. we have 0.12″ glaze & a light dusting of sleet. Icicles on the mailboxes, trees & powerlines are up to 1.5″ long.
Back edge of precipitation is on I-57 in eastern Illinois, but that last band is all snow & moderate to heavy snow at that.

Chad…do you think think it would be wise to make a trip from Galveston to Indianapolis this evening. The radar doesn’t look to too impressive that way. Just curious of your thoughts.
Thanks,
Todd
Roads are a mess I would have thought the state would have pre salted. I thought they had!
Light rain in Logansport. We had a short time of sleet, but that’s it so far.
Ice on the trees here in Frankfort.
