Preliminary Snowfall Projections

New NAM model has us still in significant snowfall, so confidence increasing enough for 3-7″ snow projection across area.
The NAM indicates a northwest-ward jog with 6-10″. I still like the idea of a northwest jog with mention of some sleet.
Went for 3″ in far northwest to 7″ in southeast counties & near 5″ in Lafayette, for now.
Noticed NWS pulled trigger with Winter Storm Watch probably due to increasing agreement & confidence in the track.
Gusty winds to 40 mph will create blowing & drifting issues.
Another snowfall event is likely near New Years.
Its funny how the news stations all seem to be saying different things. Wthr has 1-5, Wishtv has 3-9 and Fox 59 has 4-8 for central area.

Unless it stalls out – I wouldn’t worry about doing that. They will have had a day to sort it all out by then.
@ Cliff– The NAM is the North American Model. It’s just another model used by forecasters.
The 12Z Nam still showing quite a bit of precipitaion here–should be all snow. Sometimes the models overdue the precipitation. This particular run showed over 2 feet of snow in parts of North central Indiana. I find that hard to believe. We’ll see what Chad thinks!
The other news stations seem to change their forecasts on a “per model run” basis; whereas Chad tends to stick with his guns and it usually works out.
Chad is good. The only problem is when there is a major snow on the way the updates. Need to be more often. But I don’t know who controls that.

Same here in West Lafayette Teri! Roads seemed okay, but my driveway was slick!
Some slick areas here, mostly in parking lots. Roads wet, but not slick. And, while I’m at it…Merry Christmas to Chad and all the other bloggers!

I think that is why we like chad so much at least me. He sticks to what he thinks which is usually righr and doesn’t recklessly start throwing numbers out there. He may takr awhile longer than others but we all know he is pretty spot on. Thx again chad and merry x-mas to everyone

Accu weather is saying 3 inches for Lafayette
Accu weather has Lafayette at only 3inches. Chad is more higher than them. And more accurate.
Indy station just had news of 3 1/2 inches for us…We well just have to wait and see! I agree, Chad is wonderful and we are very lucky to have him!
I saw that. I did see another Indy channel say 5-9 for us. Weather channel which I don’t like has us on the edge of 6-12
