Update

December 1st, 2012 at 10:43 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

On-going forecast looks good…….

Scattered showers & a few t’storms should pop overnight & last to Sunday morning as strong low-level jet noses in.  Sunday afternoon should feature clearing with warm highs near 65.

A few isolated showers are possible Monday morning, followed by partly to mostly cloudy skies.  Models suggest 70-degree line lining up Earl Park to Pine Village to Covington with 68 in Lafayette to Renssleaer to Frankfort & 65-67 elsewhere.  These numbers will be near record warm levels.  Even Chicago may see 67, which is nearly 30 degrees above normal.

Band of rain & a few t’storms will pass Monday night-Tuesday morning.  It may be in the 50s to 60 Monday night, but we will cool off Tuesday.

Just because the weather is warm now, don’t be fooled into thinking we are going to have a mild winter.

West Lafayette weather from the past

    Dec. 3, 1998 – 65 degrees
January 1-3, 1999 – 12 inches of snow and then on Jan. 5 it was 20 below

    December 4, 1973 – 62 degrees
December 18-20 1973 – 17 inches of snow and then on Dec. 22 it was 5 below

    December 1, 1962 – 62 degrees
January 24, 1963 – 16 below and Jan. 1963 was the 7th coldest Jan. in Indiana since 1895. In Feb. 1963 15.4 inches of snow fell.

    December 3, 1951 – 69 degrees
    December 16, 1951 – 14 below and 4.5 inches of snow on Dec. 18

    December 2, 1933 – 59 degrees
December 27, 1933 – 2 below and March 1934 saw 10.2 inches of snow fall.

I really think that next March will be very cold and snowy.
