Wind Gusts 35-45 mph This Afternoon…….Squall Line May Hold On Long Enough for Isolated Severe Gusts Western Areas

April 15th, 2012 at 3:21 pm by under Chad's WLFI Weather Blog

Strong winds & high temperatures of 78-83 will occur today (with higher humidity overspreading the area).

A squall line with a hail & wind threat will develop in Missouri & Illinois to today & move northeastward.  The individual small-scale bows & cells in the line will race northeastward, but slowly the line will edge eastward.

The potential exists for the line to hang on long enough to produce isolated severe straight-line wind gusts (55-60 mph, generally) in Warren, Benton, Newton & Jasper counties, before weakening (as dynamics move west & good north of the area).  Model guidance suggests that this line & band of rain & t’storms would pass in the 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. time frame for the viewing area.

Monday, it still appears a narrow, broken line of showers & t’storms may form on the actual surface cold front & pass around midday.
