Helpful Fisherman Finds Unwelcome LitterMay 19th, 2011 at 2:53 pm by Tom Harmeson under Uncategorized
Anybody who has ever fished off the bank of a river, stream, or any other public waterway has experienced litter.
But a Nebraska fisherman who wanted to help clean up his local lake picked up more than just a couple bait cups or old fishing line.
Rodney Page was not catching much at Cunningham Lake one evening, so he decided to pick up some trash. What he found was not your typical piece of fishing equipment.
It was a pipe bomb.
Page didn’t want anybody else to come across the explosive and maybe get hurt, so he took it home and contacted the police, who were not too pleased that he took the pipe bomb home with him.
After answering several questions and probably undergoing a scolding from police, Rodney Page learned a lesson about being a Good Samaritan. And the police in Nebraska are looking for someone who might be fishing with highly illegal tackle.
Everyone should make sure to pick up after themselves every time they go, but unfortunately that doesn’t always happen. So the next time you have the urge to pick up someone else’s trash at Oakdale Dam or anywhere else, remember to watch what you are about to grab.
See you out and about.
